Amazing Pictures From Flaws or Inclusions Found in Stones!
Everyone will certainly appreciate me too hollowed stone antique Chinese snuff bottles, Once treated, like the beautiful forms and purity of the stones may not only fail to impress. One would think that the approach was, no inclusions or defects would be avoided, and the bottle from which only the best parts of the form of the stone. This was often the case. But what am I even more fascinating is the amazing way in which they consciously and shiny, took advantage of natural flaws and inclusions often present in these rocks.
Most of the quartz and jade stones have an outer layer of a different color, especially the stones from the river beds. They also have faults and shortcomings as well as other colored material, often deep into the stone. Sometimes this can be very thin skin-like inclusions, while others are found in large pieces.
When you consider that no one knows exactly what's inside one of these rocks, until, as the cuts made and are the secret of the stone are revealed, they discover how clean or otherwise, is the stone really is. It is with the stones that have inclusions or defects; The 'Picture Agate "snuff bottles are produced. The best bottles of this incredible, once completed, manage to make the recording, that the image look as if it forms in exactly the right place, as if released on order!
There are different types of work within this group of snuff bottles and the first are what we call 'Cameo' carvings. This use any shell or blob type of inclusion (of a different color), they can be very strong and carved in relief. Another type is called "Shadow Agates' and this use marks in the stone, where with the help of only a little carving, a picture emerges. Finally are the most fascinating-called "Silhouette Agates' but in this group for no apparent carving is needed. The image is mainly determined by the angle and the choice of Achieved shape and the size and position of the bottle to be formed in the rock, so that the recording is a picture. These bottles are to be seen to be believed.
What is really overwhelming to me is the fact that even some of these bottles with pictures on both sides!
Unfortunately, few of them signed were. We only know that there is a certain school of carvers known as the "Suzhou School '. Their works are easily recognizable by the style and the quality of the carving, and the fact that they use any marks in the stone to form the image. They are amazing bottles as well, but there are many later works, which tend to look stiff and the carving not through the more fluid artistic touch of the master carvers. Unfortunately, hardly any of these bottles are hollowed out really well.
Our first Chinese Snuff bottle
So to describe my first purchase, this was a "shadow image agate bottle, a small carving, and highly eroded. It is a most appropriate subject matter and color for a snuff bottle, because the red-brown inclusions have been used to show "Putai Ho-Shang. He is always a represented very stout man with a bare chest and abdomen, and He is the patron saint of tobacconists. In this bottle, it seems to sit by a bat down some tobacco leaves surprised. Die Fledermaus at the Chinese is a symbol of happiness. You can see how easily he seems, well placed in the bottle but only the head and a proposal Hand carved. We now have a series of "picture on the various types of agates, and illustrate described the photo of the duck with Lingzhi fungus in its beak is a good 'Silhouette' example. Incidentally, the fungus is a symbol of hope for long life. This bottle is very unusual because there is a recess carved originally to create the image, which serves as a built-in antenna. Finally, an excellent bottle of fish with pictures on both sides: the pair of fish on the one hand, 'Cameo' carvings and the Chinese represent fidelity and happy conjugal rights in marriage. Assessment
To effectively assess the hard stone snuff bottles, should be the first consideration with the overall artistic impression to be affected. You must satisfied that the work looks good and is well positioned and that created the images flowing as stiff and awkward. The next step is to take a closer look have the technical skills. When I look at a cameo type of carving I study the shape and surface of the background, close to the edge of the carving. In poorer Bottles this can indented, uneven and not as good as the rest of polished. Really nice examples, as if the raised cameo part has been somewhat of a well-formed Bottle of glue. Engraved work at best is very precise and detailed information. When exactly did (under magnification) on a poor bottle the engraved parts can be very coarse.
