Antique lamps - a lamp with a Message!

We have all of the "message in a bottle" is one. Here we look at an antique lamp an old message!

The story of the transformation of Siddhartha into the Buddha, which means "one who has awakened," is well known, both in the East and the West, with a growing Western interest in his life and teachings.

Each bore the name of the Buddha, by common tradition, about 565 BC Very few of the details from the life of Buddha, one can be checked, and it is difficult to determine the difference between history and myth.

Previously we felt that he was born in Lumbini, which is in present-day Nepal, close to the border of northern India. He's probably been in a ruling royal family Born and given the name Siddhartha, which means "He who has reached his goal."

Predicted at the time of the birth of the Buddha, astrologers, that he would be a great king, or a monk who develop into a great teacher. His father, in this sense, the boy in luxury and every need met, gathered in the hope that he would not engage in a religious life. Be arranged at the age of 16, a father to him a princess of its class marry, she was described as "Yasodhara. He put his life to the palace, 29 years old, his wife gave birth to a son, "Rahula". Shortly after the birth of his son, He began to drive from his palace home.

The Buddhist tradition says that he was deeply disturbed by the sight of an old, helpless, frail People. On his second trip, he saw an emaciated and depressed man suffering from an advanced stage.

In the third, he saw a grieving family with the Funeral of a family member to cremation. He was deeply concerned and thought about the suffering he saw old age, sickness and death.

On his fourth voyage, he saw a monk, of a secluded life of meditation introduced. He could see that he was calm and relaxed. This fourth experience motivated him to follow the path of the monks and to find a spiritual solution to the problems caused by human suffering.

Siddhartha left his wife, child and luxurious lifestyle to seek the truth. This was not unusual and has been accepted practice for some men to leave their family and lead the life of a wandering monk.

After his Enlightenment, the Buddha continued to teach, to move from place to place, preaching his message and teachings. After forty years of teaching, at the age of 80, he died in the small town Kusinagara. His last words were: "Decay is inherent in all things. Make sure to aim with clarity of mind."

To spread the message of the Buddha and began to say historical records that were received in 68 AD, two Indian Buddhist monks in the Tang court and put the teachings of the Buddha to the Emperor. The monks were well received and received imperial favor. They remained in China, translations of Buddhist texts and teachings.

The Tang Dynasty, a golden age Chinese Buddhism, and had about 500AD the message across China and, in fact, at this time, there was further spread Buddhism in China than in India, where most of the Buddhist was back to Hinduism!

Buddhism has always been a rich language of symbolism, as the culture of ancient China. If these two cultures together, Symbolism new heights were reached.

A large part of Buddhist teaching is the metaphysical symbolism of a wide range of demands, till the news about the symbol, read and understood. One of the great teachings of the Buddha is called "The Eight Auspicious Symbols". Here we look at a Chinese vase altar, rich in the language of characters that again today as a lamp! (A photo of this lamp is to be seen on the company's website, link below).

"The Vase" is one of the eight auspicious symbols, and means many different things when it comes to Buddhism. It is perhaps one of the most important symbols of Buddhism. It represents wealth, but not understood in the same manner as the wealth in the West. Here wealth means "the ever-growing crowd, we have by virtue of our understanding the study and the effective exercise of the Dharma. "This would be understood by those statements," the vase of inexhaustible treasures, "or" a vase for emptiness, so that he received the teaching of the truth. "Specifically, this means the spiritual wealth of the Buddha, a treasure that is not smaller, but much of it given away.

(Another vase is a symbol that more fresh cut flowers in the Buddhist temples and altars in the home altars in memory of the tradition that the Buddha loved flowers) are set.

Our second symbol is the vase handles, take over, modeled and applied Ju'i shaped scepter. The Ju'i is the Chinese name for the scepter shaped, short, curved staff, rather than the Mandarin class means authority. To translate Applied scepter handles on the lamp as "transcendent" or true authority.

Our third icon is probably the best known symbols of all the Buddhist, the lotus flower. The lower half of the lamp stylized lotus blossoms symbolically held at the opening of the pure ship within together reveal.

The lotus flower is purity. It is able to grow and blossom from the muddy water, and therefore a symbol of spiritual growth and regeneration. The roots of the lotus are in the mud, the stem grows through the water and the beautiful scented flower lies pristinely above the water, basking in the sun. This pattern of growth implies the ascent from the primeval mud of materialism, through the waters of experience, and in the bright sunshine of enlightenment. The Lotus is one of the most famous symbols of Buddhism and is in all kinds of Buddhist art, Painting, sculpture and ceramics.

The lamp is equipped with a finely turned maple cap, and standing water with a gold satin.
